Morton Township Master Plan

August 21, 2024
The Planning Commission meeting was held on August 21st which included updates by the Master Plan consultant, Rowe Associates.
These updates included refinement to the demographics as well as the natural features maps that will be part of the final Plan.
Additionally, a public survey was discussed and embellished to suit our Township.
The Township decided to implement the survey now to gather the thoughts of the community.
This is your opportunity to have input to the Master Plan as well as Recreational features that the Township can implement as funding permits.

June 6, 2024 - Master Plan Kickoff
Morton Township started the process of updating their Master Plan in 2023. They have hired a firm specializing in these activities, Rowe Professional Services, and a kick-off meeting was held on June 6, 2024 at the Morton Township offices. The Master Plan process will be under the direction of the Planning Commission. We will keep you apprised of progress and will be certain to inform you of those opportunities to get involved. Key in this process (hopefully) will be gathering community input through surveys and public hearings. At a minimum, when you receive a survey for input, we strongly encourage you to let your voice be heard.

The Master Plan Process typically spans 12 months and there will be opportunities for the residents to contribute to the plan. A table that shows the general schedule for the master plan update can be viewed HERE.

The current MP can be found on the Township’s website: Morton Township Master Plan as well as the Township’s Zoning Map. The Township's MP was first adopted in 2004, and has been updated in 2007, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2019. As stated in the MP Introduction, ‘The Morton Township Master Plan is intended to guide the future growth and development of Morton Township over the next ten (10) to fifteen (15) years.’ The MP and the accompanying Zoning Map are essentially the blueprints for all future development within the Township. One of the reasons listed by the Township for the RV Park application denial was that the proposed use of the property was ‘inconsistent’ with the Master Plan and future land use as described by the Zoning Map. We see these two documents as being key for all future development proposals for the Township. Given that, we feel we/you/us need to be engaged in the endeavor for updating them. This is a key inflection point for community input.
